Fist of Justice

FoJ #6 – Page 2

PAGE TWO
Panel 1
[Fist is down on one knee, trying to stand back up]

FIST
I have no idea what you’re doing here, or HOW you’re here for that matter.  But if the man in that limo is injured…

BLAZE
Injured?!?  He probably looks like my wife’s pot roast right about now!

Panel 2
[Blaze is pointing at Fist, an angry look on his face]

BLAZE
And what do you mean how I am here? The way I figure it, YOU are the one who should be answering that question!

Panel 3
[Fist is facing Blaze, his hands up in front of himself as he makes a “let’s calm down” motion]

FIST
Alright, look – obviously there’s some questions we both have.  So back down and let me check on –

Panel 4
[Blaze blasts Fist in the chest with a bolt of fire from his hand]

BLAZE
Ah-ah! Get back, blue-boy!  I trust you as far as I can throw you – this is obviously some sort of trick –

Panel 5
[Blaze doubles over clutching his sides]

BLAZE
Nnnnngh!  It’s happening again!

Fist of Justice #6 – Script

This issue was scheduled be released back in September.  But, here we are like eight months later and it’s still not done. Now, we may not have a large following, but what fans we do have are very dedicated people who honestly love what we’re doing. As such, and while the delay isn’t my fault, I feel like I owe everyone SOMETHING.

So, I’m going to post the script for #6.  It’s no replacement for the actual comic (you’re going to love the art), but this way you can at least get the story to some degree.  And whenever we get the darn thing done, you can order your copy and read it the way it was meant to be read.  But until then…

We’ll start at the, well, the “start”:

THE RETURN OF BLAZE!

PAGE ONE (splash)
[Blaze is landing a big, smashing uppercut on Fist’s chin, knocking our hero off of his feet]

CAP (Fist of Justice)
“It’s amazing how things can change in the blink of an eye.”

CAP (Fist of Justice)
“One second I’m watching an old man drive away – an old man who said he knew who I was – and the next his limo is a raging ball of fire courtesy of someone who should be somewhere between fifty and sixty years old.”

BLAZE
I have no idea what’s going on here, Fist-man, but if you’re involved then you no doubt deserve this!

SFX
FWHAM!!

CAP (Fist of Justice)
“He sure doesn’t hit like a sixty-year old!”

Fist of Justice #5 and Beyond

I don’t recall if Ed has mentioned this or not, so I’ll go ahead do it…
We got the purchase order from Diamond for FoJ #5 and the numbers WERE up, but still not enough.  We got a reprieve, though, and they’re going to go ahead and distribute the issue as scheduled.  That’s the good news.
The bad news is that unless the numbers really pop for #6, we’re probably done insofar as being carried through Diamond.  THAT DOESN’T MEAN THE COMIC IS DEAD, THOUGH!
We’ve been maneuvering to go to a digital format for some time, so folks with an iPod, iPhone or, I guess, iTunes, will still be able to get your fix of Justice.  After a while, we’ll collect the digital comics into a print edition, perhaps a 3-issue trade paperback or something.  I’m still trying to convince Ed that we should have the issues available at one of the P.O.D. places, but Ed’s concerned about the quality and price of the book.  A full color issue will still cost around $4 and we’d like to get away from that if at all possible.  My thinking is that if someone wants to pay $4 for the comic, let them.  I know I will, just so I can have a complete run in comic form.  The silver lining of the "bad news" is that if we forego the traditional comic format, we’ll save money. And not having a printing bill is a pretty lucrative looking option for Ed these days.
What are YOUR thoughts?  Will you just write the book off if we go to a digital/POD format? Will you wait for the collected editions? Do you have some other option you’d like to see?  It’s one thing to look at trends with other books and publishers and try to gauge what would be the best route to take, but hearing directly from the fans of the book is the only real way we’ll know how to proceed.
Of course, if everyone orders a couple of copies or convinces a friend to order one, we’ll be okay.  If the numbers were where they should be for an awesome comic of this caliber we wouldn’t even be considering any of the above!
Again, and I want to stress this – we’re not hanging up our red boots and big FJ belt buckle just yet!  In fact, we’ve got some really cool stuff planned – stuff that’s going to remind you why you liked the book in the first place or, if you’re new to the book, make you happy you finally gave it a shot.

Fist of Justice #1 a Top Seller

Out of curiosity, I ran a report that breaks down our top selling individual comic issues here at Beyond Comics (in Frederick).

  1. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #583
  2. FIST OF JUSTICE #1
  3. SECRET INVASION #4
  4. DC UNIVERSE ZERO
  5. SECRET INVASION #5

This covers the past year or so.  The number one selling book, the ‘Amazing Spider-Man” with President Obama on the cover, sold 186 copies.  ‘Fist of Justice #1′ sold out at 100 copies.  The numbers aren’t 100% accurate – but close enough that FoJ is firmly stuck in the #2 spot.

Now, granted, the sales on #1 were high because we had a launch party, article in the paper and it’s a first issue – but the fact that it soundly beat out every other book over the past year (except for that damned Obama/Spidey comic) is pretty fuckin’ cool.

Mike is Inteviewed by Jen Contino at “The Pulse”

Hey, look at me all getting interviewed and what not!

MIKE IMBODEN RAISING THE FIST OF JUSTICE
BY JENNIFER M. CONTINO

Mike Imboden is one of the folks making good old-fashioned comics that readers of every generation can appreciate. His defender of Charm City, The Fist of Justice might remind people of a classic stars-and-stripes hero, but Imboden said that legend wasn’t “an influence at all.” He tells us how The Fist of Justice was created and what makes Marc Mason such a stoic defender of the innocent…

Merry Christmas!

And a BIG shout-out to my man Buz Hasson (“The Living Corpse”) for throwing this Fist of Santa (Santa of Justice?) together for me at the last minute!

Fist of Justice Artwork #2

frenzHere’s a sketch of ‘Fist of Justice’ done by Ron Frenz a few years ago at the Pittsburgh Comic Con.
I think this is actually the first piece of artwork that I ever paid for. I don’t mean that in a cheapskate kind of way, just that I’ve never been one to get original art or commissions or anything like that.
But FoJ had just started and I really like Ron’s “old school” style, so since it seemed to be a logical fit with the character, I asked him to draw this up for me.
One of these days I have to get around to scanning some of the stuff from my sketchbook that I’ve been slowly getting filled over the past couple of years. There’s a couple in there that are really cool!
But until then, dig on this Ron Frenz original. :)

Fist of Justice #3 on Sale October 8th!!

foj9Finally!
After the “perfect storm” of production problems, this bad boy is FINALLY in stores this coming Wednesday (the 8th)!!

Check out a preview right here:
http://blog.digitalwebbing.com/2008/10/fist-of-justice-3-preview/

Not to beg and plead, but I’m begging and pleading with everyone to go to their local comic store and tell them you want a copy. Even if they don’t have it, if there are enough re-orders placed with Diamond the book will ship fairly quickly. Don’t let your retailer give you any kind of jibber jabber about the book not being available because now you KNOW it is.

Ed and I thank you in advance for your support!

It’s NOT a Doll!

Hooo-boy!
I had heard hushed whispers of a picture that was spotted during this past San Diego Comic-Con, but until recently it remained a thing of mystery.
Then, like a long-forgotten secret that appears from nowhere, I opened my e-mail about twenty minutes ago. There were no words aside from the signature line:

Geoff Beckett
President
Shocker Toys LLP

I glanced around and, seeing that no one else was within sight, clicked the ‘Attachment’ icon…

…and saw this:

foj_proto_00428The prototype for the Fist of Justice action figure!

More details as they become available to us. For now, click the picture for a larger image and visit Shocker Toys at www.shockertoys.com!

Fist of Justice #4

This SHOULD be in this week’s Previews:
Fist of Justice #4

by Mike Imboden, Chad Hardin, Eduardo Savid, John Wycough, Ed Dukeshire, Mickey Clausen
Cover by Yildiray Cinar and Deon Nuckols

For Fist of Justice, adjusting to life in the 21st century hasn’t been easy: There’s the Internet, smartphones, the War on Terror, Hannah Montana — oh, and a 10-foot-tall monster made of molten rock intent on destroying everything in its path. And did we mention a rampaging horde of mole men? Suddenly, the 20th century looks a lot better.
