It was Free Comic Book Day and in Frederick, MD at Beyond Comics, we had Roy Rogers' restaurant out in force with their welcome wagon! They were giving away FREE chicken strips inside (nom nom nom!!) while these two "ranch hands" helped lure people in! Inside, Mike Imboden had his table set up and ready to rock the masses! What collection, too! Warmageddon, The Living Corpse, old copies of Digital Webbing Presents and, of course, Fist of Justice! The light coming in from outside made this a pretty dark picture, but you can still get a feel for Mike's top-notch display!
Why, look! It's Mike Imboden! He looks ready to tell the world about the greatness that is Fist of Justice, doesn't he? Shot in the Dark comics set up to review portfolios and conduct a talent search. John MIzzer (right) also owns and runs Comics World in Chambersburg, PA. They are like a cousin to Beyond Comics (that makes them cool, BTW!) Terry Flippo draws some nice stuff. His current coolness are "Big Headz" drawings - familiar characters with... big heads! Terry is awesome! And his last name is fun to say aloud: Flippo! FLIPPO!!! You'll FLIP for FLIPPO!
The delightful Danielle Corsetto showed up to sell copies of the best-selling collections of her web comic, "Girls With Slingshots". Danielle has a weird food allergy that will make her literally explode with the power of a hydrogen bomb if she eats certain things, but she's still a bright ray of sunshine. And a very talented comic creator! Danielle sketches for one of her fans. The other one was shopping. (insert rimshot) Heyyyy-oh! I'm kidding, of course. Danielle's fans are legion and would probably crush me under their collective foot should she give the word. Danielle Corsetto and Terry Flippo! Together again for the first time!
DC Cathro mans the register. DC gets the "Ironman" award for handling the initial onslaught of customers pretty much alone. This very small crowd was the just start of what was to become a tsunami of human flesh rolling through.... ewwww, that's just gross as hell to continue with. Suffice it to say, a LOT more people would be handing Douglas their money as the day wore on. The Hulk guards the store, standing angrily right inside the front door.
You can also get a pretty good idea of the size of BC-Frederick in this picture.
Here's a decent shot of some customers milling around The Hulk. They all look pretty oblivious to the fact that there is an eight-foot tall Gamma-powered monster standing amongst them. More customers looking at stuff. In fact, these folks aren't even looking at the FREE stuff - they are looking at hardcover collections on our "You Should Buy This Or You're a D-Bag" table. Hey, please, I won't stop you from dropping $35 on that book, buddy! Sean Chen sketches in someone's Bible. Or is it a dictionary? I dunno, it could be either. But whatever it is, I'm sure it's a better book now that it has some of Sean's amazing artwork inside of it!
